First Grade Classroom

Welcome to the LPE Spanish 1st grade classroom!

What will we be learning this year?

In addition to reviewing our colors, numbers from 0-10, and magic words, we will be learning the following new material:

How can I practice at home?

This year you will be learning the Spanish alphabet song. Since most of the Spanish letter names are very similar to the sound that they make, singing the Spanish alphabet song is a great way to practice your Spanish sounds. Try using more of your Spanish skills at home by saying your colors in both English and Spanish.  How about counting in Spanish instead of English?  We all use our magic words daily… why not use the Spanish versions instead?  Sing the Days of the Week and Months of the Year songs in Spanish and show your parents your body parts “exercise” routine!

How about playing some computer games in Spanish?  Follow these links to practice your new Spanish skills:

·        colores  (note that they use marrón instead of café for brown)

·        números

·        alfabeto

·        saludos

·        partes del cuerpo:  cara y cuerpo (face and body)

·        días de la semana

·        meses del año

Remember that the key to pronouncing words in Spanish is to use your Spanish vowel sounds.  Practice this whenever you can.  For example, use your new letter sound skills to read your menu at a Mexican restaurant.
