Last month, LPE
was fortunate to have LTISD Deputy
Superintendent Chris Allen provide a
presentation on LTISD Security and
Safety Enhancements. Rest assured
that our school district is doing
everything in their power to keep
our campus communities safe. For
those of you unable to attend, the
following is highlights from his
presentation.
-
All of LTISD
leadership, staff,
teachers, substitute
teachers,and local
law enforcement are
trained for LTISD
school emergency
situations.
-
Safety and Security
Training measures
include emergency
preparedness,
weather, traffic,
wildfires, outside
criminal activity,
evacuation drills,
reporting, campus
lock-down drills,
and shooter
scenarios
-
After every
lock-down situation
occurs, there is a
debrief meeting to
critique response
and improve
processes for future
incidents.
-
Upcoming facility
and communications
enhancements to be
completed on or
before fall 2013
include: fixing any
doors, locks,
fences, gates not
properly
functioning; panic
button door locking
system being
installed in front
offices, adding and
updating campus
security cameras,
updating interior
door lock
strategies, school
messenger system, PA
system updates,
outdoor speakers,
hand-held radios,
key-less entries
where applicable.
What can WE
do to help?
-
Do not block fire
lanes
-
Be sure to sign into
the Raptor system
upon every visit,
wear your badge
prominently, and
remember to scan out
-
Make your legally
required stop for
buses
-
Respectfully submit
to volunteer
background checks
-
Cooperate with
current safety laws
and policies
-
Continue to share
your concerns
-
Continue to stay
vigilant
-
"If you SEE
something, SAY
something!"
